Collin Makamson presents East Meets West: The Meeting on the Elbe

Join Museum Student Programs Coordinator Collin Makamson on the anniversary of the April 25, 1945, meeting between American and Soviet forces near Torgau, Germany, on the Elbe River.

This meeting was captured in a famous photo depicting an American and Soviet soldier warmly shaking hands and embracing one another. Using artifacts from the Museum's collection, Makamson will highlight the story behind this celebrated moment in WWII history as well as explore the biographies and personal histories on the two men in the photograph.

Dinner with a Curator is an evening of dinner and history hosted by The American Sector Restaurant + Bar culinary team and The National WWII Museum professionals. Guests participate in discussion on a featured topic related to World War II which is interpreted through the Museum's collection and a theme-inspired four-course dinner paired with beverage specials.
