70th Anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima Webinar Series

Join us for our upcoming webinar series commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. In this three-part series from late-February to late-March, go beyond the famous flag raising to explore the landings and the intense five-week battle that ensued, costing nearly 7,000 American lives. Delve into the Museum’s extensive collection, including photographs and oral histories from the Digital Collections site, and encounter unique stories of strength, survival, and perseverance on the volcanic island. Viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in polls throughout all of the programs.

Price:
$10 per webinar for non-members; free for members

Part One: Landings and Flag Raising — Thursday, February 26th at 12:00 pm CT
Part Two: Valor and Sacrifice — Thursday, March 12th at 12:00 pm CT

These live programs have already occurred. But if you purchase the final webinar, you'll receive the recording of the first two programs to prepare you for the last one.

Part Three: Victory and Legacy — Thursday, March 26th at 12:00 pm CT
Explore the final phases of the operation, and the last, desperate banzai attempts of the Japanese army to attack the battle-worn Marines. Learn about the importance of the island in the overall bombing strategy for the remainder of the war and why the Marines on Iwo Jima will always be remembered for exhibiting "uncommon valor" as a "common virtue."
