Join curators, experts, and enthusiasts as we introduce our newest special exhibit. Tom Lea was one of the first civilian artists hired by LIFE magazine as a correspondent during World War II. He traveled more than 100,000 miles during the war, endangering his life as he recorded the US armed forces from earth, sea, and sky. His paintings became full-color spreads in 10 issues of LIFE, reaching more than 30 million readers. The exhibit features paintings, illustrations, and writings on loan from private collections and museums. Curator Larry Decuers of The National WWII Museum, Adair Margo of the Tom Lea Institute, Sarah Forgey of the US Army Center of Military History in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and Jamey Clement, friend of Tom Lea, will share their knowledge of his life and art. A reception precedes the remarks. The special exhibit will be open for viewing throughout the evening.
