Rob Citino, PhD, presents A Night in Tunisia: The US Army in North Africa 1942-43

North Africa was where it all started: the first real exchange of fire between the US Army and the German Wehrmacht. But even today, the Allied landing in North Africa (Operation Torch, as it was known) tends to generate as many questions as answers. Why had the Allies decided to land in French North Africa in the first place? If the eventual Allied target was Berlin, wasn't fighting for Algeria and Tunisia something of a detour? In the end, did Allied strategy for 1942 make sense? Join Rob Citino, PhD, the Museum’s Samuel Zemurray Stone Senior Historian, during this enlightening evening as he discusses why this campaign was an instrumental step towards the Allies defeating Nazi Germany in Europe.
