Smithsonian Museum Day

The National WWII Museum joins fellow Smithsonian affiliates in showcasing the history and culture of our community. For free admission to participating museums, visit www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday. You must pre-register and print your ticket from the aforementioned link in order to receive the free admission.

Free admission to The National WWII Museum applies to exhibits only. A separate ticket is required for the 4D film Beyond All Boundaries and Final Mission: The USS Tang Submarine Experience.

Get up close with the various uniforms and equipment used by men carried ashore by the Higgins boats.

Higgins LCVP Boat Tours

For just the second time ever, the Museum is allowing visitors to step inside our Higgins LCVP. Museum staff will provide interpretation of the boat and its innovative features.

Lecture

H. Mortimer Favrot Orientation Center
Curator Eric Rivet will discuss the Museum’s participation in the upcoming Places of Invention exhibition put on by the National Museum of American History’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation. Learn how the combination of people, place, and resources made New Orleans a place of invention.

Author and Louisiana business magnate Jerry Strahan will detail the innovative business practices of Higgins Industries and the significance of the LCVP in World War II.

Book Signing
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Main Museum Store
Jerry Strahan will be available to autograph copies of his book, Andrew Jackson Higgins and the Boats that Won World War II.
