Rick Jacobs presents Operation Market-Garden

Defeated, decimated, and disorganized after the Battle of Normandy, the Wehrmacht appeared to be on the verge of collapse in August 1944. To win the war in 1944, Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery proposed a narrow thrust through the Netherlands with himself in command. The largest airborne landings in history seized key bridges across Holland—Operation Market—while an armored corps pushed down the single highway to force a crossing of the Rhine over the bridge at Arnhem—Operation Garden. Join Captain Rick Jacobs for the story of how Arnhem proved to be "a bridge too far."

Lunchbox Lectures are free and open to the public on every first and third Wednesday of the month. For more information call 504-528-1944 x 463.
