Megan Byrnes presents "A Forgotten History: The Internment of Alaska Natives During World War II"

While many are familiar with the internment of Japanese American civilians during World War II, few people are aware that 881 Alaska Natives from the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands were also forcibly evacuated and interned in camps in Southeastern Alaska. From June 1942 until 1945, men, women and children lived under deplorable conditions as the US and their allies fought to dislodge the Japanese foothold in the region. After the war, Aleutian internees worked together with Japanese American internees to seek justice and reparations from the US government.
