Kim Guise presents "Wee Warriors"

Hear select stories of children on the American Home Front and how their lives were affected by the global conflict of World War II. In 1943, Billy Michal was a six-year old boy in the rural town of Zimmerman, Louisiana. He won a statewide scrap drive and received a trip to New Orleans to be part of the launching party of the Liberty Ship SS Leonidas Polk at Delta Shipyards. His adventures are detailed in a scrapbook kept by his mother and donated to the Museum. Karen Bendixsen and Betty Jacobs were both young girls, part of dance troupes who performed for servicemen and also raised money for the war effort. See artifacts the Museum's collection and hear more stories from young people like Billy, Karen, and Betty.
