Anna Desormeaux presents Portrait of Wally

Austrian artist Egon Schiele’s painting of Valerie “Wally” Neuzil was brought to the United States from Austria’s Leopold Museum in 1997 as part of an exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Upon the MoMA exhibition’s close, the Bondi-Jaray heirs laid claim to the painting, thus commencing the case United States of America v. Portrait of Wally. Follow the complicated journey of the painting as it moved from Jewish to Nazi ownership and eventually became the subject of a precedent-setting legal case.

Lunchbox Lectures are free and open to the public on every first and third Wednesday of the month. For more information call 504-528-1944 x 463.
