Patrick Stephen presents Baseball and World War II: Playing Through the Years

Join us for an inside glimpse into the world of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1941 to 1946 as never seen before. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s “Green Light Letter”, penned in 1942 to Major League Baseball (MLB) Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis, gave MLB permission to operate throughout World War II, however team owners still struggled to keep the sport alive during World War II.

Over a delicious meal, learn from Museum Curator and Historian Patrick Stephen as he discusses how rationing, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, the minor-league farm system, segregation, and the finances of baseball affected the game, while still providing a sense of normalcy and entertainment for Americans during the war.
