James Doolittle and his men didn't do much physical damage when he led an air raid onto the Japanese homeland less than a year after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. What he did accomplish was much more important: the daring, clandestine mission revealed weakness in the Japanese defense and boosted American morale. The defensive flaws rattled the Japanese into igniting the Battle of Midway, a decisive victory for the U.S. Navy just six months after Pearl Harbor. Join us for a deep dive on the Doolittle Raid, as award-winning journalist James M. Scott gives an in-depth look at his new book, Target Tokyo: Jimmy Doolittle and the Raid That Avenged Pearl Harbor, which details the risky venture. Joining Scott for a post-lecture conversation will be Lt. Col. Richard "Dick" Cole, who was Jimmy Doolittle's co-pilot and is one of only two surviving Raiders. Along with the lecture, the Museum will be giving away one free print of a Doolittle B-25, signed by Cole, with the purchase of each copy of Target Tokyo while supplies last. Date:
