Charles Chamberlain presents "Creating for the Arsenal of Democracy: Mobilizing Defense Industries for WWII"

At the beginning of World War II, the US had to mobilize defense industries quickly. Dr. Charles Chamberlain will present on the federal government's efforts to build ships, planes and other defense industries in the South and West, where prior to 1939 no large scale industries existed. This effort helped to change the economies of the two regions permanently, and caused a profound demographic shift in the nation's population.
