Senator George S. McGovern

"Wars Past & Present"  

George S. McGovern represented South Dakota in the United States Senate from 1963 to 1981 and was the Democratic nominee for president in 1972. He was a decorated bomber pilot in World War II, after which he earned his Ph.D. in American history and government at Northwestern University. A recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, he lives in Mitchell, South Dakota.

There will be a book signing* immediately following Senator McGovern’s presentation.  He will be signing his book Abraham Lincoln, the latest edition in the American Presidents Series edited by the late Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr.

Senator McGovern will also sign Stephen E. Ambrose’s The Wild Blue which chronicles McGovern’s 35 missions flown and actions for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross as a B-24 pilot over Europe during World War II.
