Meet the Author: Lester Tenney presents "The Courage to Remember"
US Freedom Pavilion: The Boeing Center

5:00 pm Reception | 6:00 pm Presentation | 7:00 pm Book Signing

Captured by the Japanese after the fall of Bataan, Lester Tenney, PhD, was one of the very few to survive the infamous Death March and three and a half years in Japanese prison camps. With an understanding of human nature, a sense of humor, sharp thinking, and fierce determination, Dr. Tenney endured the rest of the war as a slave laborer in Japanese prison camps. His is an inspiring survivor's epic about the triumph of human will despite unimaginable human suffering. His first book, My Hitch in Hell, recounts his WWII experiences and is widely acknowledged as one of the best personal accounts of the Death March and ensuing captivity. Dr. Tenney has now published his second book, The Courage to Remember: PTSD—From Trauma to Triumph where he addresses the question: how can you free yourself from the oppression of the past and the imprisonment of your mind?

Dr. Tenney has long been a friend and supporter of the Museum, receiving The National WWII Museum's Silver Service Medallion in 2013 and serving as the September 2013 Gen. Raymond E. Mason Jr. Distinguished Lecturer on World War II. Additionally, he was honored with the Japanese Ambassador's Medal for developing a more meaningful relationship between the United States and Japan. He earned his doctorate in business administration from the University of Southern California and is Professor Emeritus at Arizona State University.
